OCA Global, together with the Intersectoral Committee on Circular Economy (CIEC), with the coordination of the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE), and with funding from the Climate Technology Centre & Network (CTCN) of the United Nations, has developed the "National Circular Economy Strategy" (ENEC) for Costa Rica.
More than 360 participants from different public and private sector institutions, academia and NGOs have collaborated in the development of the ENEC. In this process, events, workshops and interviews have been held, with equal levels of participation of women and men.
The sectors that have been prioritized in the ENEC are:
- Industry
- Agriculture and livestock
- Trade and services
- Construction
- Tourism
On June 27, as a closing event of the ENEC construction process, the National Circular Economy Strategy for Costa Rica was presented and explained to key stakeholders and other interested parties.
The event was attended by more than 70 attendees in person and more than 300 attendees virtually. Among the attendees were the Minister of Environment and Energy, the Vice Minister of Economy, Industry and Commerce and the Acting Minister of Health, among others.
Costa Rica has stood out for its commitment to the environment. By adopting the circular economy, it could strengthen this reputation, while boosting economic growth and preserving natural resources in a sustainable manner.
