BRC
What is it?
The BRC standard is the product certification promoted by the British Retail Consortium, with the objective of evaluating the producers of own brands – or private labels – when guaranteeing the legality, quality, and safety of food products.
This model, which is one of the most used internationally when qualifying suppliers, reinforces the safety and compliance with food legislation, establishing transparently and rigorously the safety and quality criteria required for food suppliers.
Due to the great success and acceptance of this standard, it is not only used to evaluate suppliers of own brand products, but also as a framework in which many companies have based their supplier evaluation programs and the manufacture of products of their brand.
To adapt itself better to each cirumstance, BRC has developed 6 schemes:
- BRC Global Standard Food for manufacturers of food products.
- BRC Global Standard Storage & Distribution for logistics companies and for distributors of food products.
- BRC IOP Global Standard Packaging for packaging manufacturers, both food and non-food.
- BRC Global Standard Consumer Product for manufacturers of non-food products.
- BRC Global Standard Storage and Distribution for storage and distribution companies.
- BRC Global Standard Retail for companies engaged in the sale of food and non-food products.

Who is it for?
It is a food safety scheme that applies to manufacturers of own brand products – small and medium-sized companies, since large companies tend to have their own brand already implanted in the market.
